The daughter of the late 2007 National Heritage Award winner Mary Jane Queen and Claude Queen\, Jeanette grew up one of eight children in the mountain wilds\, with music ever-present in the home. \nWith a powerful\, clear voice and a “head full of songs\,” Jeanette sings the mountain melodies her mother taught her with joy\, often reminding the audience to remember the beauty around them. \n\n  \n\n\nWe will be hosting a potluck dinner this evening.  Please bring a non-disposable place setting and a covered dish if you are able.  If you are unable to for any reason\, we are happy to feed you\, and also to provide a place setting. DESCRIPTION:Mark Queen and Owen Grooms play traditional mountain tunes on guitar and clawhammer banjo at blazing speeds\, and a wide array of singing tunes that run the gamut from old time\, rock and roll and country. They recorded a self titled album in 2018 and have performed across the area. Mark grew up immersed in mountain music\, as he hails from the well known Queen family that has won numerous state and national awards for their achievements and contributions to mountain lore and culture. Owen went to Warren Wilson College where he studied old time music and has been playing and teaching music in Brevard since 2013. Both musicians play with groups all over Western North Carolina and beyond. Come enjoy some hard driving mountain music and string band interpretations of some of your favorite classic songs. \n\nWe will be hosting a potluck dinner this evening.  Please bring a non-disposable place setting and a covered dish if you are able.  If you are unable to bring something\, for any reason\, we are happy to feed you\, and also to provide a place setting. DESCRIPTION:Born in Western North Carolina\, Haden Rhea is a very talented fiddle player\, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who is not afraid to try new things. She grew up being taught how to love and respect the outdoors. Her loving mother took on the responsibility of her education from the very start\, not just with academics\, but by setting the example of good morals and a love for music. Haden began her fiddle journey at the age of three\, and joined the Transylvania County JAM Program at the age of eight. Her fiddle journey only grew from there. She performed with the JAM Ensemble for three years and now performs with the Blue Ghosts and is now teaching with Transylvania county JAM. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a celebration of Appalachian Culture with performances from JAM Kids\, the JAM Staff Band\, and the Cedar Mountain All Stars. \nWe will also be celebrating bringing on Tod Schmidt as a new worker-owner at the Canteen\, and the release of our own Cider collaboration with Botanist and Barrel\, called Appalachian Culture!  We are also announcing our new name:  The Cedar Mountain Canteen Appalachian Cultural Center! \nThe day will start at 2 pm with our weekly Bluegrass Jam\, hosted by Bruce Threlkeld.  At 4:30 a dance board building workshop will be held\, where kids can help build their own dance board for flatfooting or clogging. \nJAM Kids will take the stage next at 5:30\, followed by the JAM Staff Band. The JAM Staff Band is comprised of Bruce Threlkeld on banjo\, Tim Fisher on Fiddle\, Haden Rhea on Fiddle\, Richard Hardy on upright bass\, Owen Grooms on Mandolin\, and special guest Rick Taylor on Guitar. \nBack due to popular demand\, we will close out the evening with a performance from the Cedar Mountain All Stars. This group is comprised of all of our jam leaders at the Canteen\, and what a group it is! We will focus on songs that feature\nvocal melodies\, harmonies and instrumental breaks. Typical\ninstrumentation includes guitars\, banjos\, mandolins\, Reso phonic\nguitars (Dobroes)\, fiddles\, and a bass\, but we welcome other\ninstruments like the dulcimer\, ukulele\, harmonica and autoharp\,\ntoo.
