DESCRIPTION:At its core\, The Moon and You is a charismatic husband-and-wife team. Melissa Hyman plays cello\, Ryan Furstenberg plays guitar and banjo\, and both sing in “voices that sound like they were made for one another” (Bill DeYoung\, Connect Savannah). But whatever you might assume based on their gorgeous vocal blend and heartfelt lyrics\, this ain’t your basic folk duo. With a rotating cast of talented friends to add unexpected instrumentation to their lineup\, The Moon and You never plays the same show twice. This ever-evolving\, expandable and collapsible model leaves the band constantly reinventing itself in ways both surprising and satisfying. \nCurrently calling Asheville\, NC home\, Furstenberg and Hyman mix up a fresh blend of influences from very different backgrounds. Melissa grew up in the NYC area studying classical cello. Her dad is a professional violinist and formal music instructor\, her mom a fan of 60s folk who loves to host a good old fashioned sing-along. Ryan was born and raised among the Eastern NC tobacco fields\, learning classic country and 70s rock on harmonica and then guitar. His rich country baritone and easy Southern style bring an undeniable Americana flavor to the table. \nTogether\, the two form a sound that is warm and inviting\, atmospheric and playful. Each is a well developed songwriter with a distinctive voice\, and their songs range in style from classic to quirky. Lyrics-driven and intellectual with a keen ear for arrangement\, they make music perfectly suited to a listening room or a pair of good headphones. \nLive on stage they are 100% themselves: funny\, charming and slightly odd; communing with their audiences\, warts and all. How we eat and how we treat the food from mother earth matters more if one seeks absolute health and sustenance of this human mechanism. \nWe are excited to announce Cedar Mountain Canteen Public House will be hosting an Indian Dinner fundraiser the second Friday of the month. *This is a zero-waste event. If you want to order your meal for take-out\, please bring your own containers.  Bringing your own reusable place setting for the dinner onsite is greatly appreciated too.  It is a gift to our fundraising team to have less to watch and to not have any garbage.  We joyfully share our place settings if you need them. \nTraditionally Indian meals are designed with 6 tastes of the tongue and served in its order of consumption. The six tastes are 1. sweet (fruits)\, 2. sour(lime)\, 3. salty(salt)\, 4. hot spicy(chilly)\, 5. bitter(curry leaf) and 6. astringent (buttermilk). Every meal is designed to include a certain proportions of solid and liquid foods for easy digestion without constipation\, offering a balanced diet of protein\, vitamins\, minerals\, probiotic and carbohydrates. Born to two musicians and named for a song\, she started piano and ear-training at age five. Formal voice lessons began at the age of thirteen and led to classical training at Baldwin Wallace University\, where she majored in Musical Theatre and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Music. Living in New York City led Dulci to learn guitar and write her own songs. Hosting an open mic in Manhattan led to her first project\, Now You See Them\, a trio that traveled extensively from NYC to Hawaii and Australia\, playing residencies and developing their own unique sound. Encouragement from music lovers she met on the road led her to Asheville\, NC\, where she reconnected with her Appalachian roots and found an incredible artistic community. Since then\, Dulci has been touring nationally and singing on the Western North Carolina scene\, performing and recording with regional favorites like Holy Ghost Tent Revival and Cowboy Judy. In 2015\, she recorded her first solo album\, produced by Seth Kauffman of Floating Action.
