SUMMARY:Owen Grooms Presents Charlie McDaniel and Potluck
DESCRIPTION:Charlie is a self-taught guitarist and singer from Shingle Hollow\, North Carolina. Raised on a 100-acre family farm\, his musical roots run deep in Bluegrass tradition. He began performing in a family band at age 15 before moving to Greenville around 1990. Charlie’s influences span a wide musical landscape—from Flatt & Scruggs and New Grass Revival to the Grateful Dead\, Darrell Scott\, Acoustic Syndicate\, and Widespread Panic. \nHe recently celebrated 50 years of band music\, along with 40 years on the bus. \nHickory Flat\, his family band had 2 top 10 finishes at SPGMA International Band contest\, as well as playing on the festival circuit in the late 80’s. \nAfter moving to Greenville\, he hooked up with Gene Dillard at The Handlebar Bluegrass jam and  helped host the jam for several years. He then formed West End String Band\, with his wife Kathy and Jim Rollins\, which eventually turned to a 5 piece with Matt Purinton and Brian VanAntwerp. They played regionally for around 15 years\, losing Jim to a car accident in 2018\, a travesty to the band. They were quite  the favorites at local festivals and events. \nPresently he and Brian VanAntwerp perform as West End Strings and can be heard locally around Greenville

DESCRIPTION:Join us as we dedicate our listening room to our beloved friend and sound engineer\, Daniel Gardner. We are naming our listening room after Daniel because he was so very passionate and devoted to our music at the Canteen\, and constantly strove to make improvements to the space and our weekly events. Daniel helped us kickstart our livestream service which broadcasts each of our shows and other events on our website. He helped us rebuild after Helene. Most of all\, Daniel was a dear friend\, bright light\, helping hand\, and he had a wonderful smile and great sense of humor that lifted everyone’s spirits. His energy and passion lives on in our listening room\, as we continue to strive to make the space even better for musicians and listeners alike. \nWe will begin the evening in community with a potluck at 5:30. Please bring a dish and place setting if you can\, but we are always happy to provide food\, bowls\, plates and silverware. \nTo break in the new name and celebrate Daniel we need some music! What better way to do it than with some of Daniel’s close friends and favorite local musicians. \nCody Hale and Jonlyn will kick off the night\, Jenn and Owen will play a short set\, and all four musicians will end the night together. \nWe look forward to being in community together as we remember Daniel and his wonderful spirit. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Carrie Morrison is a popular Brevard\, NC-based singer/songwriter known for her heartfelt lyrics\, warm\, expressive vocals\, and piano-driven songs blending folk\, Celtic\, and rock influences. Her music reflects adoration for her Appalachian home as well as love\, loss\, feminine rage\, humor\, and resilience. Carrie performs both as a solo artist and as a vocalist/keyboardist in regional rock favorite The Andrew Thelston Band\, as well as in several duos. Carrie has been voted one of the top pianists in Mountain Xpress’s Best of WNC contest for three years running. Her most recent albums (2025) are “Balladeer\,” produced by Chris Rosser\, and “The Crosswalk” (EP)\, recorded at Abbey Road Studios London. Carrie teaches English at Brevard High School. www.carriemorrisonmusic.com \nAoife Clancy grew up in Co Tipperary Ireland and has been performing for over 35 years. Her father was Bobby Clancy of the group The Clancy Brothers\, and had her performing with him at local festivals and folk clubs at an early age. Aoife moved to the States over 30 years ago and toured with the renowned Celtic group Cherish the Ladies out of NYC for several years. While touring with the group she recorded a live Grammy nominated CD with the Boston Pops titled “ The Celtic Album” Aoife’s genre of music is comprised of Celtic\, Old Standards\, Americana and blues. She accompanies herself on guitar and Irish drum (Bodhran)\nAoife now resides in Etowah NC where she runs her own catering/ music events business.\n\n\n\nWe will be hosting a potluck dinner this evening.  Please bring a non-disposable place setting and a covered dish.  If you don’t have food to bring for any reason\, we are happy to feed you.  We are a pack it in\, pack it out public house and ask you take everything you bring in\, out with you.  Many thanks.
