When we were approached and asked if we would make our venue available for an artist this community member wanted to bring to the area, we responded, absolutely.  We are excited to announce Heather Mae.  Thanks to the financial support from this individual, this show is available to the community at no cost.  Thank you.

This performance will take place in our new music hall and is a listening event.  Seating is limited to 40 seats.

Nashville-based queer songwriter Heather Mae makes resistance music for right now, drawing from the protest-folk lineage of Joan Baez and Woody Guthrie with the emotional candor of Phoebe Bridgers. The founder and leader of Singing Resistance Nashville, Mae has trained with legendary songleader Dr. Ysaye Barnwell, carried songs into movement spaces from D.C. to Minneapolis to Nashville where, in March 2026, was carried from the Tennessee State Capitol in handcuffs by nine state troopers while singing against a bill requiring providers to report transgender patients receiving gender-affirming care. The distance between song and action is virtually nonexistent in Mae’s work. The 20222 NERFA Artist-Activist of the Year, who has opened for Holly Near and tours frequently with fellow queer, social justice songwriter, Flamy Grant, and on-and-off stage partner, Crys Matthews, Mae brings that lived resistance to the Cedar Mountain Canteen in a show mixing original songs, queer joy, razor-sharp storytelling, and the audience participatory music of Singing Resistance. As RIVAL put it, Mae tackles everything “from calls for racial justice to anthems of queer celebration” with both clear intent and joy. This isn’t a concert about resistance from a safe distance — it’s an invitation to sing yourself into it. Join us on September 19th at 6:30 pm.
