The Roundtop Ridge String Band – Thursday, September 1 -6-8 pm
A comfortable musical mix of Old-Time fiddle tunes and Contemporary Folk songs performed with energy and sweet harmony. The band loves the music it performs, we hope you do also.
Amanda Johnson – fiddle and vocals
Amanda’s passion for Appalachian music began shortly after moving to Asheville in 2016, when her husband signed her up for “just a few lessons” with local great, Josh Goforth. Several years later, she is still taking lessons, but also attending jams and workshops, playing for dances, and teaching students of her own, soaking up all she can of this region’s rich fiddling tradition. Amanda enjoys exploring multiple fiddling genres and is energized by dynamic ensemble playing and backing up singers. The classical training of her youth laid the foundation, but her heart now belongs to old-time music.
Donna Leggat- banjo and vocals
Donna Leggat grew up about two miles from where she lives now in Candler. At 12 years old, she moved away with her family, but always longed to live in the mountains. Donna learned old-time banjo in Virginia, and decided to return to the mountains upon retirement. She is very happy to be here to play at The Canteen with the Roundtop Ridge String Band.
Anna Sturdivant – guitar and lead vocals
Anna’s musical background includes early years of playing and singing in Bluegrass and Gospel settings. After moving to Fletcher, NC, she began to study backup guitar for Old Time music. Regularly attending area jams, Anna developed a driving style of guitar to compliment the fiddles tunes and traditional songs she heard. Anna can also be found on stage each year as a performer with Traditional Songs for Women group at Merlefest.
Richard Hardy – bass, guitar and vocals
Playing music with the other folks in the Roundtop Ridge String band is the most fun one can have. I enjoy being able to play bass and sing a few tunes but enjoy hearing the music these other folks make even more. So many tunes, so little time.
