Newfound Gap

Newfound Gap is a sibling band from Leicester, NC blending traditional mountain music with progressive influences. Bayla Davis is a 16-year-old clawhammer banjo player and Traditional Appalachian vocalist. Sylvie is a 14-year-old fiddler, and Judah is a 13-year-old guitar player. Emme is an 11-year-old mandolin player and bass player. They have performed at Merlefest, The Earl Scruggs Festival, Woodsongs, the IBMA’s Youth Stage, Kids on Bluegrass, Shakori Hills Music Festival, Rooster Walk, and Appalachia Sessions, among many others

 

Momma Molasses Band

With her stirring voice, rowdy sense of humor, & unique finger-picking guitar style Momma Molasses has been likened by listeners to female greats such as; Patsy Cline, “Mother” Maybelle Carter, Loretta Lynn, and has also been deemed by fans as “The Postmodern Minnie Pearl”. Her songs blend a recipe consisting of equal parts Traditional country, 1940s Hillbilly swing, and 1960s folk revival.

Growing up she learned to play traditional country music from her Uncle; while singing gospel music in church, & frequenting local bluegrass jams. She was raised by two ex-hippies turned medical workers who dedicated their lives to rural medicine & valuing people over profit. After a string of hard luck she started touring, and camping on mountainsides, crashing in an old Ford Windstar van named Janis; booking at local breweries, & any hole-in-the-walls that would have her, mostly in Southern Appalachia. She has since played at several festivals, and historical theaters, and has opened for several nationally touring acts

Momma Molasses was born & raised in Carthage, North Carolina where part of her family has lived for over 8 generations; she also has family roots in the West Virginian coal mines, & the East Texan cattle fields. She is currently based at the “Birthplace of Country Music ” Bristol, TN/VA; where she works for The Birthplace of Country Music Museum as an assistant producer & stage manager for Radio Bristol; a living exhibit focused on bringing the roots back to country music radio. She also recently released a new album “Take Me to the Country” which was recorded at Classic Recording in Bristol, VA
