Afro-Latin Jazz Workshop with Santos4tet

(all musicians and tap dancers welcome!)

Santos4tet (aka Grupo los Santos) will present a 90 minute Afro-Latin Jazz workshop for instrumentalists and tap dancers of all levels, doing a deep-dive into “A Gozar con mi Combo”, a classic descarga by Israel “Cachao” Lopez.  Containing most of the important elements of this music, the band will break apart and teach the individual threads that make up this composition, covering clave, harmony, melody, coro, song form, tumbao, montuno, call and response parts, cascara, abenico, as well as approaches to improvisation.  Charts and worksheets will be provided and workshop will be conducted in English and Spanish, as needed.  Attendees will be encouraged to play and experiment with the concepts as they’re being presented.
