We are super excited to announce a new Monday evening music series. Owen Grooms will be hosting every Monday from 6 – 8 pm. Here are a few words from Owen about the series:
I am very excited to be starting a weekly music series on Mondays from 6-8pm. Each week I will have a different musician playing with me. Stay tuned for lots of great music to come at the Cedar Mountain Canteen, and I hope to see you each and every Monday!
This Monday Owen will be playing with Mark Queen. Mark Queen and Owen Grooms play traditional mountain tunes on guitar and clawhammer banjo at blazing speeds, and a wide array of singing tunes that run the gamut from old time, rock and roll and country. They recorded a self titled album in 2018 and have performed across the area. Mark grew up immersed in mountain music, as he hails from the well known Queen family that has won numerous state and national awards for their achievements and contributions to mountain lore and culture. Owen went to Warren Wilson College where he studied old time music and has been playing and teaching music in Brevard since 2013. Both musicians play with groups all over Western North Carolina and beyond. Come enjoy some hard driving mountain music and stringband interpretations of some of your favorite classic songs.
We are going to host a potluck dinner on Mondays too. Please bring a non-disposable place setting and a covered dish. If you don’t have food to bring, we are happy to feed you. We are a pack it in, pack it out facility and ask you take everything you bring in, out with you.
