Mark Queen and Owen Grooms play traditional mountain tunes on guitar and clawhammer banjo at blazing speeds, and a wide array of singing tunes that run the gamut from old time, bluegrass, rock-and-roll, and country. They recorded a self-titled album in 2018 and have performed across the area since 2017. Mark grew up immersed in mountain music, as he hails from the well known Queen family that has won numerous state and national awards for their achievements and contributions to mountain lore and culture. Owen went to Warren Wilson College where he studied old-time music and has been playing and teaching music in Brevard since 2013. Both musicians play with groups all over Western North Carolina and beyond. Come enjoy some hard driving mountain music and string band interpretations of some of your favorite classic songs.
We will also be hosting a community potluck dinner this evening and every Monday from 6–8 pm. Please bring a dish to share and your own non-disposable place setting. If you cannot bring food, for any reason, we are happy to feed you. We look forward to sharing a meal together.
