The Mark Queen Band plays traditional mountain music at blazing speeds and a wide array of songs that run the gamut from old-time, rock and roll, to country. Mark grew up immersed in mountain music, as he hails from the well known Queen family that has won numerous state and national awards for their achievements and contributions to mountain lore and culture. His grandmother Mary Jane was a famous ballad singer, and the rest of his family played and sang mountain music, both old time and bluegrass. Joining Mark are Owen Grooms on clawhammer banjo, and JT Linville on upright bass, whom he met at a picking party in Cedar Mountain, NC. The trio hit it off right away, playing until the wee hours of the morning, and have been playing together ever since. Together they form a sound that is not quite bluegrass and not quite old-time, but is truly mountain music, in the fashion that the Queen family always played.
