Ascension is a local Brevard College Alumni-formed band with some friends and family. Started up by Arianna Ruiz, she wanted to create a wholesome space, where she could play jazz with family and friends. Many of the members have been told “they aren’t good enough” in the music industry and she wanted to create a welcoming space for all levels of experience and with no judgment or pressure. They decided that this group is to spread love, positivity, and acceptance through their music and with each other. Too many musicians have faced the harsh music scene and have been told they are not good enough, rather than offered the chance to grow. They challenge their members of all experience levels from a few months to several years by creating new harmonies, intricate melodies, and exploring new instruments. They find jazz, funk jams, originals written by their members, and covers they all love to be soothing and provide growth for them individually and together. The band includes the three BC Alumni, Arianna Ruiz (flute, sax & vocals), Dal Davis (drums, vocals, keys, guitar, bass), Ryan Burnette (drums, keys & vocals), along with their friends and family, Christian Ruiz (sax & backup vocals), Evan Slattery (vocals & guitar), and Josh Schneider (guitar, drums, bass & vocals). They have members in the band that have been playing for 15+ years with groups and members that this is their first band! Ascension Featuring Arianna Ruiz Fire Spinning
Arianna has worked with her band to create an original piece of music that tells the story of a fire goddess through the music and dance. She wanted to captivate the emotions of what this fire goddess went through when discovering power, losing control of it, leading to hate and regaining control and discovering love in oneself. This short but beautiful original is a structured freedom piece, meaning the band was given certain guidelines, but it left to interpret different aspects of the piece individually. This will truly be a one of a kind performance, as no interpretation is the same.
